Author's Note:

12 single player maps. Your a American 3rd Infantry Division Soldier fighting the war in africa, italy and france normandy.

Review:

Not so far after an already big release called :COD Valor Briant is back with a even huge addon containing 3 campains (Afrika, Italy and France) from 4 maps each. It has special content with new squad and envrinonment texturing a brand new weapon and new music. For this episode there is no custom voice acting only on text message.

I won't make a as much detailed review as for COD Valor and will only focus on a general approach to focus on things I really liked and the little downwards.

Design is from the same bottle as previous releases from Gunrock, he has reach for me a above average level but except some more complicated architecture I didn't see a huge change between previous release and this one it's certainly not perfrect but really not far away from (what I would like to build things like this...) All theme, according campain, are well implemented and also give some varaition from airfield to town passing by a boat experience even evening or morning missions; Briant really make a huge effort to his pack to make it as much varied as possible. The only minor point to take in account is the fact that Briant does'nt bother about detail and taking time to build them especially regarding indoor parts of town houses where some rooms ave simply fill with armo box or simply...empty.

Gameplay is perfectly balance and really highlight this pack. the way Briant handle you progression and objective to achieve is nearly perfect and really immerse you with your team squad through the 12 maps for each you will play for arround 20min except the two last one that are a lot more challenging (perhaps a too challenging especially the last one). even some of the mission objective where you need to destoy objectives in trench maze or forest may look repetitive but it's a so enjoyable experience that I really don't care from travelling though those maze. In addition to those classic mission Briant added some more original objective with the highlight of the ship escape a la COD4 that was, perhaps short but really briliant and one of my prefered custom mission ever! finally Briant pushes the content like for COD valor to it's end with another enjoyable last sidescrolling cinematic to reward all the people who give him some custom content.

Afrika campain

Italy campain

France campain

In conclusion: Briant is certainly one of the most prolific mapper/designer 'man who can do everything' from this decade, and this always with an above average skill. I really hope he continues in the way of creating single player experience for all of us...This one was a great and memorable experience i will certainly play againin the future and really recommand you to directly, even if the download is huge, download this one that is till now, part of my Hall of fame custom collection.

Highly Recommanded

Author's Note:

4 single player maps. Play as a 82nd paratrooper, and a british paratrooper.

Railgun: Fight your way through a nazi train yard to capture a railgun.

Ruins: In france deep in the woods the nazis set up a base in the old
french ruins go in hard and clear them out!

Farm: Hq reports that the germans are setting up a flak 88 gun
on a farm close to the main road the allies supply line uses.
Your squad has got a job to do.

Hill52: Hamburger hill your captain calls it. the germans got that
hill covered with mg42 bunker's land mines and a hard edge
german division to top it all off. And the brass want that hill!

Review:

This is I hope not the last release from Briant, It's an episode that is not as good as other episode previuously reviewed here but it's not far away. Maps aren't really linked together but provide different experiences always oriented in a squad progression, objectives are easy to understand but in all fights you have to remember that the respawn of enemies is associated with your progression, so if you stay to kill enemies they will never stop coming. The four missions are set in different environment with a correct design and an enjoyable scripting and last but not release regarding to previous release from Briant, this time it's challenging enough to give durability. the author took also some music, sound and models to add some special features to the pack, except some weapons sounds, it was perfectly fitting.

First map (Railgun):

for this one you will need to travel through a railway depot and destroy all flag cannons. Layout is correct but a little dispaointing in terms of realism most of building are empty or not enough constructed in term of indoor details and, it also doesn't shows any effect from bombing planes that seems to be always present during this mission, this depot never let me the feeling to be a startegic place to destoy and really looks unrealistic, for the rest the general layout is quite good and the scripting events are well manage to make you travel through this really huge openwided train station depot. Its huge intense and not that easy to pass through.

Second map(Ruins):
this time you need to investigate some ruins left in a forest were german troops found some coverage after their pull back. In this one sherman tanks will be you friend, progression is straight forward in a more realistic environment were german always have good place to hide and ambush you it's quite ckassic in design and architecture but really let a realistic feeling, for the scpiting it's as well handled as in the fist mission and respawn of enmies add a fighting value to this one making it thaught to progress in some places.

Third map(Farm):

After a brief but intense fight trying to protect a main road you will follow your team mate to get into a far away farm well protect by german troops, progression will make iot not that easy to reach the farm and try to take it after there will be a panzer counter attack to fight against with perfect placement of tank that really gonna hurt you... the general layout is enjoyable and all location seems enough detail to make them realistic, short mission briefing is present in this one and perfectly audible, it's ones more injoyable and add the talking dimension of a team... scipting change a little bit at the end with those 'moving' objective but one more it's enjoyable.

Fourth map (Hill52):

here we are with the tanks trying to get rid of those nasty, well protected bunkers it's more simple in this last one progress, eliminate resistance and take the bunker and go forward to do. The same layout, like the scipt but doesn't add anything new to what we saw before and i would expect something much like a timed final battle where you need to hold the position... it's ok well handled but lets an unfinished tasted.

Fifth map (???):
I wont tell about this one but really found the idea original and everything was simple but so efficiant this is really the perfect example of what I, player, like to see...and really finish this one with a personal, highly enjoyable touch.

In conclusion: after a lot of successfull tests maps (that are all available here) Briant came with some bigger project though a four maps episode with more challenge, mixed gameplay experience and mixed environment, this all put together bring something enjoyable that also has some flaws but certainly make us play an enjoyable pack.

Author's Note:

1 single player map. your a toysoldier fighting the axis toysoldiers for complete. Domination for the bedrooms and hallways of a house. I wanted to do something diffrent with coduo this time.

Review:

This one like the author said is something different perhaps a simple nightdream... Nothing really realistic but it's fun, well scaled and quite original .
Design: the experience take place in Briant's House (not really sure) but it could be so, the environment provides a special exprerience from a bedroom to a bathroom that are full of up to date detail including music and environment objects. The scale is perfect and altenates a classic room design from place to place.
Gameplay like for all previous releases from gunrock is perfectly manage in a squad oriented progression. Progression is well oriented through objective and will make you travel from room to room even if all of them don't need to be visited. The ambiance is ok and add what's needed to the simple fight experience, the only regret comes from the lack of challenge and the fact that it's quite short for an experience.
In conlcusion: Another original example made by briant it's one more time too short but well worth the download.

2 single player map. Your an oss agent who's cover has been blown! You must fight your way through the city and make your way to tunnel 17!

Review:

I Just decide to get to modonline this we to see if there was no new map in their database and hopefully for us there was... to 'out of grave map from Briant that were release at the end of 2007.
Like other map from Briant it's not perfect but it's another fun to play through map with correct design and good scripting.
Design: the experience take place in Italy where you first aim is to travel through a typical street of Sicily where german are waiting for you...the design is soft and well balance sadly it looks a little to squary and flat second mission will start with the sewer access where the invironment is a succession of machine, pipes and hallways that look more realisitic than the first part even if lots of room are mission details to create a cool ambiance. I just eccounter some flashing effect while I was progressing as if the compiling process has caused some vertice bug... hopefully it doesn't affect to much the gameplay.
Gameplay like for all previous releases from gunrock is perfectly manage in a squad oriented progression. It's Linear and doesn't feature any puzzle objective but ambushes mostly in the sewer part awaits you to give you enough challenge, the only aim is to get out of tunnel 17. The ambiance is ok but misses more sounds and a use of reenforcement in several places would have create a more immersing experience.
In conlcusion: It seems that several map from Briant are still hanging here and there...Design is just a little above average and scrpipting is well handled sadly making a realisation not enough challenging (like all other release from the auhtor) just makes the experience too short... it's still enjoyable and recommended for a short playtime.

You and whats left of your small platoon. Attempt to take back a village over ran by the germans.

Review:

Last release I played by Gunrock is for me the best one because it, this time, integrate some voice acting. It has also have to be mentioned that every map by Gunrock visit a different theme and alway with the same quality. The objective is to take back a village still held by german except the name everything really makes me think to the battle of the bulge.
Note that it seems to be a lot negative comments on COD file that critics the use of prefabs that doesn't for me runed the gameplay but should have been mentioned in the readme.

Design of this map is one time more well handled, the terrain isn't flat progression is streight forward with sneaking, taking a bunker and after the village. General view architecture and all stuff are perhaps not always build in a perfect realistic way but all locations have at least a good squaled and creativity.

Gameplay is well balance and enhance through you progression with your team by some well design ambushes and the use of enemies respawn add a little bit challenge to this map, in comparaison with previous reviewed releases from Briant. It's an enljoayble experience that integrate everything to make a great map sadly it's still too short in design and gameplay to be a top notch map.

In conlcusion: Last review map from Briant is for me the best one I have no experience in COD mapping and so i don' t consider critisizing the fact to find some IW prefabs. The is a good team speach an enjoyable layout a good gameplay sadly it's way too short but fun for a short time.

Review:

One other from Briant, different location, mixed objectives.

In this mission you will need to join the rest of you squad, enter the viaalge and kick out of german from the village. Design is one more time well put together, country yard, a small village, a path that will make you travel from house to house till the last occupied house the whole thing behing put together on an evening full of bomber plane under flag fire.
The whole map with minor ambushes, architecture design and general layout make it quite atmospheric even if it's short.

Gameplay is a little to easy but less that in SAS manor for example, objective are clear and (too) simple, progression is straight forward but arrange in a maze through bushes, walls and houses. When you reach the main road a big ambush awaits you it's the only place of challenge an will bother you for a couple of minutes last objective is to meet you squadron in the outskirt

In conclusion: the map is one more time well balance regardnig size it's a short one but it's well handled , architecture is good like the general experience, even if it's like other briant's mission too short...

Review:

This is another release from Gunrock that seems to be sleeping on his computer for some time and he, hopefully, decide to finally released it. this time there is only one date (also mentioned in the readme) that seems to be the good one.

After playing a russian mission (Trench 86) this time you act in a british scquadron, objective is this time to travel by the country yard, eliminate the resistance arround the manor. Afteryou get into the manor in order to kil the german officer, final objective is simply to escape.

Design is well put together country yard is really realistic, the manor is impressive and the path arround it well connected, the whole outdoor is well put together and really nice looking. Inside part is also well build and use of texture and squale make this manor (lot's of room with high walls, changing layout, good lighting,...) an imteresting place to visit. Use of sound and music is simple but well fitting the release (we just could have hope briant use the original voice acting and add some new himself to make it even better).

Gameplay is a little to easy, objective are clear and (too) simple, progression is straight forward and inside the manor the items placement make a original way to organize your progression. Difficulty, even if enemies are well place, just doesn't be present by the fact that the rest of you squad is pretty efficiant. I really would have got some enemies attack with waves of german, some MG-42 that have been placed in the country yard scripted just after some alarm sound when the german officer was killed...

In conclusion: the map is well balance especially according the slow down (none), architecture is good like the general experience, even if it's a little bit too easy, this is another enjoyable mission that is defenetly too short...

Review:

This is another release from Gunrock that seems to be sleeping on his computer for some time and he, hopefully, decide to finally released it. I'm not sure about the date of release (like for all other of his release) the one mentioned here above is associated with the pk3 file but in the readme there is another date mentioned (23/06/05) if we take in account this one, this is the second release of Briant.

In this map you have two main objectives: first is to resist to a german attack second is to joint the rest of you squad to attack the bunker. Design is one more time quite good, but perhaps especially for the first part to close to one of the original game map it's also (for this part) well put together but in a quite simple mayout. In the other hand and in comparison with wayward this time the experience provide a good spawning of enemies with also a well scripted gamelpay. The second part follow in a perfect way the first part and make a enjoy with a massive realistic bunker that you will need to enter and 'clean' it's all well put together in a really enjoyable architecture and terrain modeling

Gameplay is this time well balance with a good mix between objective to be achive, the team experience well enhanced by some custom music provide and an immersing rush and fight experience. It's still a little to easy but make defenetly a step forward in overall experience in comparison with wayward sadly the mission is fastly completed and also like for the first one ended abruptly .

In conclusion: This is a huge step forward from Briant regarding the scripting coding of an enoyable mission featuring a above average layout. use of voice acting and not simply on text message would have also add a more realistic feeling like the addition of some more thaught combats after achiving the last objective intending the player to escape from the fortress. Critisism is always easy to do but this one defenetly is worth the download

Review:

This is one of the map Gunrock worked a long times ago and decide to finally released it. I'm not sure about the date of release the one mentioned here above is associated with the pk3 file but in the readme there is another date mentioned (23/04/05) if we take in account this one, this is the first release of Briant.

In this map your main objective is to enter a german base to kill an important officer and after to escape. Design is quite good for a first map, it's perhaps a little boxy and static but general architecture and use of environment vehicles is well put together to create a interesting layout, the mix between indoor and outdoor and the use of a tram ride make it even realistic, sadly it misses certainly a good ambiance by not integrating some real action (ambush, conterattack,...) and by using more sounds of a certain german activity in the base. Also several part misses defenetly some attention and especially the sewer part.

Gameplay is stray forward and quite easy with a little bit more than 10 enemies to kill. Objective are too obvious and the lack of enemies make it a easy walk, the fact that enemies are not always well placed also dicrease the fun factor.

In conclusion: This seems to be the first release from Briant, the layout is correct but misses certainly a lot of things to make it more 'WW2' realistic. for the small download and the short 'not frustrating' time of gameplay it's well worth the download

Story:

This epsiode is a historical mission based on the early 1940 campain of 2nd Batallion of East Yorshire that was involve in several operation between North-West of France and Belgium.

Review:
This is a quite neat and nearly perfect transcription of what really happens during 1 month of the 'Blitzkrieg' place visited are Dendermonde, Warcoing, Roubaix, Noordzee, Yser River. All maps are introduced by a screen telling you a brief story like a diary of what happens it's really a great historical work.

Design start slowly with a kind of simple map with good use of scripting but quite average design (When i tried first this episode more than one year ago and didn't know how to have the objective explained on screen -here-, I was blocked on the blowing bridge because I didn't know what to do...and also didn't find the mapping from great quality). Hopefully after the first mission Design is increasing a lot.
Building of areas were well manage and quite realistic in an kind of isolated village typical from the flamish belgium region all other maps after the first one are enjoyable through their playability and travelling. There are several thinks that bother me and especially the roads that look not realistic but in a general approach it's still above average.

Gameplay is well plesant and is mostly a mix of attack, progress, retreat mission that will make you with your squad progress through maps that varied also through their 'time through the day' happenings. Its well scripted all over the entire episode and doesn't provide any impossible spots.

In conclusion: This was the first release by Steve that lurned everything from zero to make this entire episode. He also manage to have a really important historical database to build something coherant and enjoyable through a quite important and perhaps sad part of WWII during the retreat of thousand of English soldiers that where blocked on the sea side attempting to return to England. Another must have campaign but one of the best sp creator of WWII experience.

Review:

This map was the first release from Babycop it's a quite short release especially in terms of design (architecture) but quite interesting regarding the well put together scripting.

For their first release Babycop came with a quite simple layout (wood with a road and a hill with country yard full of german equipement). Design is mostly average with just a limited terrain and threes with some military features including two bunkers. It's still neat and correctly squaled but there isn't much more to talk about.

Gameplay is really what it's worth for in a squad mission, on a dark winter evening were alies have decided to make a counter attack. You will succeed all objectives in a rush to the hill mission. It's really intense and doesn't suffer from any slow down in framerate, progression is linear and finished in a flag battle against stukas... and that's it.

In conclusion: This first mission from Babycop suffer certainly from it's design but considering this map as a learning release to handle scripting it was defenetly a short but fun experience.

I was really thinking about this one should I review it or not? I finally decided to do because i had a certain enjoyment playing through it even if Design was mostly below average.

There is no objective/mission here it's a simple shoot and go experience. Design and architecture even if it shows in some place some good effort from the creator is mostly disapointing. This is more like a sort of maze experience where you will travel by squared room or hallway sufficiently textured but sometimes to tiny squaled and encounter enemies that are awaiting for you (there is no scipt here it's just a 'cleaning' experience).

It certainly shows through the way you are progressing that the skill of the mapper is increasing with progression but there is still a lot of work left to create a decent release.

Gameplay doesn't provide any puzzle or objective experience, it's just a 'destroyed everything' mission.

In conclusion: There is hope after playing this one that the author can take care of critisism to increase is mapping skill and mostly learn a little more about scripting, because there is defenetly potential regarding the map, that the author succed to create a good WW2 experience.

Review:

This map was the second realisation after the great escape,to be release for CODUO and for a 3 week building time (like the author explain in the readme) it's a really well put together map.

Design is average in a not too linear way, creating a well crafted snowy village that has been extremely damage by heavy fights. The terrain isn't flat and buildings are well put together but perhaps look sometimes too repetitive and also their general inside layout looks way too empty.

Gameplay is balance through diverse objectives quite well handled (from sniping to resisting counter attacks passing by an intense street war). Progression is mostly squad based (perhaps a little to oriented) and fearly enjoyable but can be sometimes frustrating through some challenging spot. It could Have certainly add some tank battle or destoying objective but the scripting is ceraintly the biggest part to learn from Call Of Duty and regarding the short time used to create this map I doubt it would have been handle like the author would like.

The ending may look perhaps a little bit disapointing through the fact you join you squad at the place the battle started.

In conclusion: for a 3 weeks work and even if it's perhaps a little to standard, it's a fearly enjoyable experience that add everyting to make a quite enjoyable experience.

Aachen is a quite important town situated close to the Dutch and Belgian frontier it was the place during WWII of Havy fight since it was the first important town that was conquer by Allies troops.

Review:

This one is the second attempt from Yorshire Rifles to recreate a important moment from WWII especially since it was the first town in the German part to be conquer.

Design is one more time highly enjoyable especially regarding the diversity you will encounter during you progression, form the outskirt to the center place. There was in my opinion a really good reproduction of Aachen city that just bother me for one thing in the outskirt: the road made of earth and not from a harder material (whish is quite unlogic for me but i could be wrong). For the rest the way to create destroyed house, crates, trenshes was really neat.

Gameplay is the part that i didn't like to much, but Steve warned us in the readme me that the battle of Aachen was a quite intense one, and indeed it is, several spot took me 'age' and tons of reload to pass (especially the bunker in the outskirt and the first entry in Aachen with the tank to destoy), neverteless all items are quite well placed and provides you ammo and health when you really need them. Progression is a good mix beween intense battle and more sneaking area when you can breath for a while. Another good point was the well organized objectives that give always a new one letting you the filling when achiving the last one 'it's finally it's up!' but certainly with a great proud, since it's highly challenging.

In conclusion: Another defenetly must from Yorshire Rifles that retrace another intense moment of WW2. There is mostly only enjoyment in this map with a small touch of frustration that doesn't, hopefully, switch to hate...highly recommanded.

Review:

In this sequel to normandy you and your squadron will need to take back another village hold by german and at the outskirt of this village ressist to a counter attack. Lot's of objective are include like stole important paper destroy tank and Flag and much more).

A special custom intro screen has been made with a list of the missions detailed and layed out like in the original game.

Design is well put together in the same way as Normandy and this time it's under an heavy rain.
Destroyed city, bomb holes, the church everything make this town really a really battle place during Normandy campaign. I noticed several glitches in design and texturing but they really dont spoiled the general realisation (i'm even not sure you will noticed them). In comparaison with Normandy the map seems to be smaller but attention to details (include sounds) and general layout make it quite bigger in size.

Gameplay is straight forward and quite well coded with your squad and the event you're going to encounter. Fights and Combats are easy to complete and won't make you restart a lot of time except perhaps at the end where the counter attack with tiger tanks will make it more. It as to be noticed that sounds (from COD2) and music are well associated and increase certainly the realism and gameplay.

In conclusion: Another well put together mission made by Ryan this night has been replaced by rain hopefully it's not too slippery. objectives, combats and especially the mix between them make this release another worth to play one. Sadly it's really too short Just hope that other project are on the way so we could enjoy other mission by Ryan.

Review:
Important Note: like you can see (?) in those screen it's a night mission so i recommand you to play it with minor light in the room

This mission Could be easily resume, Somewhere in Normandy just after the 7th june you and your team are droped by night near a village to 'clean' it and to destoy also two german Flag 88. The only problem is that you where drop to fast and so you will need to succeed all objectives alone but also meet the rest of your squadron at the outskirt of the village to finish the mission.

The mission start direcly with several houses, a truck an a MG42 (would like to have a short dropping scene before). Progression is obvious through design and architecture well handle to create a correct village with a good neight atmosphere. Even if there isn't a lot of exploration arround the road you need to follow the varied layout change in building texturing, small river, surrounding walls, not too flat terrain breaks the monotony. All objectives are also put well together with the correct challenge in each places.

Gameplay is quite well balanced with weapons change and disponibility being place to give some variation, some trap and ambush (inside building, truck with squad, MG42 on window) add here and there also some good challenge, all being coded proprely. There are no real disapointment trough this release exept perhaps that the experience was too short and give in most of the place to closed combat making them , if you same at the right point, not to much difficulty.

In conclusion: Another well put together mission this time by night using a good, non repetitive mix between architecture objectives and combats. Lighting isn't perfect like the enemy placement (would have like at the end a counter attack against witch you need to resist for a certain period) but appart from those minor glitches it's another recommanded mission.

Story:

To be brief and to not spoil the outro sequence explaining the story behind, here is just a brief plot for this add-on: Simulates the 1942 defense of the Caucaus (kuban) area - if you've seen the Sam Penkinpah film - Cross of Iron - then it is the same place, just a year earlier.

Review:

After several other release Yorkshire Rifles as got enough experience in mapping and scripting to make a real strong release featuring Intro and Outro map , custom skin and texture all being put together in a 5 maps episode plenty of action and great moments. You will, in this custom made release, travel with a truck to fight and take the germans first line before retreat and battle to keep you defending lines (Bataysk), attack a village, drive a german car and take a 'too far' bridge (Krasnodar), fight through a maze of trenches in order to destroy oilfied tower (Maykop) and finally get back in the main town of Novorossiysk (divide in two part) where sniping will alternate with rushing through a destroyed city full of ambushes.

This mission look exiting and it really is. Design is quite realistic and not repetitive changing a lot of environment during day and night nearly all feature from original game are visited here from driving vehicles, flying planes to mission objective always in a teamplay (squad) progression. There is no place to rest, it's really full of action and like it is told in the readme you need to progress to prevent enemies to spawn for ages in places you fighting through.

Gameplay is perfectly drawn (weapon and health are well put all over the places), team objective senario are done like it should be and ambiance with amush fights and surpise is drop at the moment it was needed.

There is for me no real complain about: objective are clear (even if i play with a French copy and Objectives are, i suppose due to this, not correctly displayed), difficulty is perfect, progression is well structured and playtime through mission is good. The only thing which bother me a little is that i associate russian battle with winter condition which wasn't the case here.

My opinion was made on a single play of this mission (a second try will perhaps change i litlle my point of view), which could easily be replayed in the future, my only disapointment being the fact that there is so much out here to be played in FPS sp that I won't take the time in the near future to do it.

In Conlusion : A must have sp campaign that give us the opportunity to replay a not so known episode of the WW II.
